Aims and Scope

International Journal of Multidisciplinary studies in Architecture and Cultural Heritage is a scholarly journal, which supports and promotes the Multidisciplinary studies of Architecture and Cultural Heritage.

The journal is aims to integrate architecture studies and heritage-related fields. The journal acts as the latest updated research platform for examining buildings design and urban environments and related approaches for cultural heritage. IJMSACH is an international journal and aims to reduce the gap between architecture and heritage studies integrated or splitter.

The field can be focused but not limited to Architectural, and Design Research. Involves a range of topics that include architectural pedagogy, and design studio teaching practices; architectural and sustainable design; design methods and architectural theories; architectural criticism; design and project programming; environment-behavior studies; application of information technologies; post occupancy and facility performance evaluation; and social and cultural factors in design; cultural heritage presentation and management; conservation philosophy and adaptive reuse studies.
Cities and Urban Research: involves a range of topics that include governance and political factors contributing to the shaping of communities, cities and urban regions; community planning; sustainable urban conservation; environmental planning and eco development; housing policy; planning, and design; new urbanism; everyday urbanism; sustainable development; urban design assessment; and urban studies.

IJMSACH is a multidisciplinary journal of science and technology for studying problems concerning conservation and awareness of cultural heritage in a wide framework. The main purpose of IJMSACH is to publish original papers which comprise previously unpublished data and present innovative methods concerning all scientific aspects related to the knowledge of cultural heritage as well as novel interpretation and theoretical issues related to preservation.

International Journal of Multidisciplinary studies in Architecture and Cultural Heritage provides a multidisciplinary scientific overview of existing resources and modern technologies useful for the study and repair of historical buildings and other structures. The journal will include information on history, methodology, materials, survey, inspection, non-destructive testing, analysis, diagnosis, remedial measures, and strengthening techniques. Preservation of the architectural heritage is considered a fundamental issue in the life of modern societies. In addition to their historical interest, cultural heritage buildings are valuable because they contribute significantly to the economy by providing key attractions in a context where tourism and leisure are major industries in the 3rd millennium. The need of preserving historical constructions is thus not only a cultural requirement, but also an economical and developmental demand. The study of historical buildings and other structures must be undertaken from an approach based on the use of modern technologies and science. The final aim must be to select and adequately manage the possible technical means needed to attain the required understanding of the morphology and the structural behavior of the construction and to characterize its repair needs. Modern requirements for an intervention include reversibility, unobtrusiveness, minimum repair, and respect of the original construction, as well as the obvious functional and structural requirements. Restoration operations complying with these principles require a scientific, multidisciplinary approach that comprehends historical understanding, modern non-destructive inspection techniques, and advanced experimental and computer methods of analysis.

International Journal of Multidisciplinary studies in Architecture and Cultural Heritage stimulates and encourages research devoted to of cultural heritage and to the positive contribution of cultural heritage management towards a sustainable environment.

International Journal of Multidisciplinary studies in Architecture and Cultural Heritage develops the skills and knowledge of the international community working in the field of cultural heritage and sustainable development. It disseminates the results of innovative research and practices, contributing to the improvement of current practices while developing and applying new/emerging practices.

International Journal of Multidisciplinary studies in Architecture and Cultural Heritage publishes a range of theoretical and practical papers based upon quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches. Articles are particularly welcome on immovable cultural heritage and its role in sustainable development, as well as the sustainable development of immovable cultural heritage. Immovable cultural heritage ranges from cultural landscapes to monuments. Other relevant dimensions of cultural heritage will also be considered for publication e.g. rural cultural heritage, indigenous cultural heritage management.

The coverage of the journal includes, but is not limited to:

• Cultural heritage – assessment, management, marketing and publicity, tangible and intangible dimensions

• Sustainable development – preservation, conservation, restoration, rehabilitation, reconstruction, demolition, best practices, unsustainable development and consequent threats e.g. urban developments, large-scale agriculture, mining activity

• Cultural heritage and sustainable development – legislation, Cultural Heritage Impact Assessment, effects of climate change, ecological sustainability, social sustainability, economic sustainability

• The role of research and scholarship

• Teaching & curriculum development
